A Day at the Beach

For months now I have been meaning to start blogging our adventures.  We have been super busy in the Pacific Northwest and I suspect that there are family and friends both near and far that would be interested in regular updates, something that provides a little more substance than Facebook.  Being the planner that I am however, I have been stumped on where to start.  The wedding back in March seemed like a logical beginning and yet, as the months have continued to pass, the details just pile up.

It then dawned on me when I was reading another person's blog.  Just start.  Pick a day and go.  So here it is...

We are sitting on the third floor, ocean view balcony of our room at the Hallmark Inn in Cannon Beach, OR, having just soaked in the final minutes of a gorgeous sunset.  Below us the orange glow and crackle of campfires spot the beach  for as far as we can see and the dull roar of retreating ocean waves fills the air.

What a lovely day!  We started out with a 40 minute walk heading south on the beach.  We returned (into a headwind) doing our walk/run intervals (training for a 5k).  At one point my hat flew off my head and I actually began running much faster in pursuit of it!  Following showers and fueled by peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, we hit the street to wander downtown, checking out all the shops that caught our attention.  Within a couple of hours we were back to the room, I to nap and Nathan off to the sauna.

A late afternoon stroll down the beach, northward this time, was much more crowded than early in the morning.  The holiday weekend and temps nearing 90 degrees (highly unusual for Cannon Beach) had lots of folks out on the beach; some under tents and umbrellas, others buried in the sand, a few brave souls riding the waves in the chilly Pacific Ocean and then you had me, whining about how cold the sand was, numbing my toes, when a wave had just washed up in our path.

Dinner of fresh Alaskan halibut (for me) and Cajun-seasoned prawns (for Nathan) was followed by our final return to the beach to capture the ball of sun moving slowing to meet the horizon.

More to come tomorrow...

Happy beach goers trying to capture the setting sun!
